Rich and Mary Pat Kraemer recently went on a river cruise in China.
They started in Shanghai and sailed up the Yangtze River. They have sent
along a few pictures from the trip. The comments are Mary Pat's.

Rich and Mary Pat. Yes, we climbed part of the
Great Wall. Outside of Beijing in the Badaling Hills - as impressive
as advertised.

The old China. In the city of Jingdeshen, the
world center of the ceramic industry (with many blue/white light poles - I
kid you not!)

The new China. Scenes along the Yangtze, east of
Chongqing.

Dirty coal-fired power plants. One of scores all
along the Yangtze from Shanghai to Chongqing.

Dirty air in the morning. The scene every morning
on our trip all the way up river.

Gold Buddhas. At Mt. Jiu Hua, one of China's four
sacred Buddhist mountains.

Mary Pat dancing with local seniors. At Fengdu,
one of the relocation towns built to accommodate those displaced by the
Three Gorges Dam. Mary Pat dancing with a local lady, part of a
local senior citizens group who performed for our tour group.
Dancing was an impromptu event and lots of fun. Many seniors torn
from the old way of life are now gathering in groups to make new acquaintances,
stay productive.

China at the center of the world globe. Typical of
a number of maps we saw along our route, this one at an elementary school
near Jingshou. |
